Water for a Thirsty Cat Counts Too
A cat sits beside an empty bowl outside your home. You fill it with water. It seems a small act, but caring for a thirsty animal also brings reward in Islam.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described a man who gave water to a thirsty dog, and God forgave him. Asked whether caring for animals brings reward, he replied that there is reward in serving every living being. (Sahih al-Bukhari: 2363) If you see thirsty animals, place clean water in a safe spot and replace it daily.
Grapefruit Does Not Mix with Every Medicine
You take a cholesterol medicine and start grapefruit juice at breakfast. It is fruit, so you assume it is harmless with your medicine.
Grapefruit can slow the breakdown of certain statins, such as simvastatin. Higher drug levels in the blood can increase the risk of side effects. This does not happen with every statin. Show a pharmacist your medicine’s exact name and leaflet, and ask about grapefruit or its juice. Do not stop or switch the medicine yourself.
