End the Day With a Sunnah

Left Food or Water Uncovered Overnight?

A jug of water and a pot of food were left uncovered in the kitchen. It seemed harmless to leave them until morning. Yet the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught Muslims to cover vessels at night and mention God’s name.

He said: “Cover the vessels and tie the waterskins.” (Sahih Muslim: 2012a) Before bed, check the kitchen. Cover food and drink containers properly and say Bismillah—“in the name of God.” This small habit connects ordinary household care with Prophetic guidance.

Button Battery: A Silent Emergency

The Child Looks Well—Still Go to Emergency Care

A small round battery was missing from the remote. The child was playing normally, with no cough or pain, so the family considered waiting. But a button battery lodged in the food pipe can cause severe internal burns in as little as two hours. A child may look completely well at first.

If a child swallows a button battery—or you only suspect it—go to an emergency department immediately. Do not wait for symptoms and do not induce vomiting. If possible, take an identical battery, the device or its packaging with you.
